Andrew Johnson is entering his 14th year of teaching at Avon High School, west of Indianapolis. He received his bachelor’s degree in Economics and English from Indiana University in 1989. After several years in the business world, he went back to receive his certification in teaching from IUPUI in 1994. In 2001, he received his Masters in Education from Olivet-Nazarene University. He spent the first eight years of his career at Avon High School as an English teacher, spending three of those years as an adjunct lecturer for Indiana University. He now teaches Economics, AP Microeconomics, and AP Macroeconomics and is the Department Chairperson of the Social Studies department. His other duties at school include the chairperson of the School Improvement Team and Intramural Sports Director. He also owned a construction service, which he ran during the summer months, for several years. He has been married to Christine, a Social Studies teacher at Ben Davis High School, since 1990. They have three children and enjoy the summers camping and traveling. His hobbies include running, biking, fishing, and hunting.

Brad DeHoff is entering his seventh year of teaching 7th and 8th grade science at Plainfield Community Middle School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from Indiana University in 1984 and furthered his studies by earning a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois in 1986. While at the University of Illinois, he taught both the lecture and lab sections for the introductory chemistry/biology course for students seeking degrees in nursing, veterinary medicine and pharmacy. Brad worked two years as a research scientist in the microbiology department at the University of Illinois before working as a molecular biologist for a large, pharmaceutical company in Indianapolis. One of his most significant accomplishments was working on the team that located and sequenced the DNA of the hereditable breast cancer gene, BRCA1. In addition, he helped sequence the entire genome of the bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae, the organism that causes bacterial pneumonia. In 2002, Brad obtained his teaching certification in secondary education at IUPUI with his primary license in chemistry and biology along with a computer endorsement. He also teaches an educational computing class as an adjunct instructor at IUPUI. At Plainfield, Brad has coached two state championship science teams and helped coach one state champion interdisciplinary team in the Jr. Academic Super Bowl competition. He received the Optimist Teacher of the Year Award for his school in 2005 and won the Innovative Middle School Science Teacher Award from the Hoosier Association of Science Teachers, Inc. (H.A.S.T.I.) in 2006. Brad is currently the Middle School Director on the Board of H.A.S.T.I. He teaches the Chemistry I-1 and I-2 courses for the IOA. Brad enjoys going with his wife and three boys to amusements parks each summer.

Christine Johnson is a teacher at Ben Davis High School. She has taught all levels of US History and is currently teaching Advanced Placement US History and is helping to usher in the Ben Davis International Baccalaureate program as a teacher of IB History of the Americas. Christine received her bachelors from Indiana University and masters from Indiana Wesleyan. She has been married to Andrew, economics teacher at Avon High school for 18 years and they have 3 children, Olivia, Claire and Gabe. Christine enjoys hiking and camping with her family and watching her kids in sports.

Cindy Franklin graduated from Ball State University with a degree in Spanish and Secondary Education. She earned her Master’s Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She joined the Speedway High School faculty in 1990 and has enjoyed working there for the past 18 years. During that time, she has had the opportunity to teach levels I-V of Spanish. Cindy has also taught Spanish as an adjunct professor for Ivy Tech. Cindy joined the team at IOA in 2007 and designed the course for Spanish 1. She is an active member of Indiana Foreign Languages Teachers Association. Cindy and her husband are blessed to have three wonderful children. She enjoys spending time with her family, reading, relaxing and vacationing whenever possible.

Erin Galovic has been a teacher for seven years and has been teaching American Government for IOA for the past four. Currently, she also teaches American Government and a course of her own design for Westfield Washington Schools. Her course, titled "Topics in History: the Jewish Holocaust and other 20th Century Genocide," has been very well received and has been a powerful experience for her. In addition, she recently received an Eli Lilly grant to visit former holocaust camps in Europe. She visited 5 different camps this past summer; an invaluable experience that has greatly enhanced her class. Erin is a new mom and is taking pleasure in every minute of it. She enjoys spending time with her son Hayden, her husband Tom (who is the new principal at Whiteland High School), and her family. She's a big movie buff and also loves to spend time outdoors, rollerblading, camping, biking, and walking on the Monon Trail.

Jamie Martindale has Bachelor's degrees from Purdue in Psychology and IUPUI in Education, with minors in Political Science and Economics. He also picked up a Master’s degree in Business Management from Indiana Wesleyan in 1992, and is a committed lifelong learner. Jamie teaches AP Psychology and Economics at Pike H.S., and Government for the Indiana Online Academy. He is an adjunct faculty member in the Business department for Marian College, and author of five study guides for CLEP exams through Chancellor’s Learning Systems. Wife Kaelynn is a nurse, instructor, and artist, and children Tyler, Chris, and Emily are all on intriguing paths of their own. Jamie is a regular blood donor and hopes to write a collection of science fiction stories someday.

Jeff Steiner joined Roncalli High School as a full-time teacher in 2001. While at Roncalli, he has taught AP® Calculus, Algebra 2, and Pre-Algebra. During his tenure, his students have achieved a great deal of success with 95% of them passing the AP® Exam. Jeff received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Taylor University. In 2006, he received his MBA from Anderson University’s Falls School of Business. He is a 2001 recipient of the Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education Future Educator of the Year Award. Jeff lives on the southside of Indianapolis with his wife and daughter. In his free time, he enjoys playing golf, tennis, and fantasy football as well as working outside in the lawn/garden.

Jennifer Moody-Clifton is the IOA instructor for Algebra 2 and took over the course during the Summer of 2006. Jennifer and her husband Scott have two children, ages three and five. She has over a decade of Indiana licensed teaching experience and is currently teaching for her third year at Community Montessori Charter Public School. Jennifer taught previously for eight years at Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, Indiana, and made the change to spend more time with her children. She earned a Bachelors degree from Indiana University Southeast in Secondary Education for Mathematics and a Masters Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. She also has a Bachelors degree from Western Kentucky University in Business and Broadcasting. She enjoys spending time with her family whenever possible. Athletic and outdoor activities are her favorite hobbies. |

Katie Gallagher has had the privilege to teach high school for the last 12 years. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in psychology from University of Notre Dame in 1996 before pursuing a career in teaching. In 2003, she earned her master's degree in Educational Technology at Indiana University. In 1998, Katie joined the faculty at Cathedral High School, a private Catholic school in Indianapolis, Indiana. For the last ten years, she has had the privilege to teach some combination of AP Psychology, Psychology, Economics, and U.S. History. During her tenure at Cathedral, she developed an online course program available as an alternative for senior Cathedral students. She has created online courses in Psychology, Economics, and A.P. Psychology. She has presented at numerous state, regional, and national conferences including the premier K12 educational technology conference, NECC. Katie has had the honor of teaching for the Indiana Online Academy since 2001. Previously, she served as a teacher and teacher supervisor at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth distance education program for three years. She is a member of TOPSS, Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools, a division of the APA, and the IHSPTA, Indiana High School Psychology Teachers Association, an organization that she helped found. In spring 2007, she was the recipient the IPALCO Golden Apple Award for her project, “Hands On The Brain.” Katie completed her. Katie is married and is the proud mother of four young children.

Libby Lawrie is a proud mother of three and grandmother of two. Her daughter, Nicole, a Miami of Ohio graduate, teaches Biology and is also the IOA Biology Course teacher. Her older son, Kevin, an IUPUI graduate, works with computer graphics. And her youngest son, Nathan, is a Yale University graduate and Political Science Major who plays in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints. Her husband Chris has been a Physical Education and Health teacher in Decatur Township for 29 years. She has had the honor of being an IPALCO Golden Apple Recipient and Indiana Creative Biology Teacher of the Year. Libby received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and Masters Degree in Education from Butler University. She is also a former graduate and facilitator for the CIESC Teacher Leadership Academy. In her 27 years of teaching, 22 years were spent teaching Biology, Science, Health and Physical Education. She is currently a Technology Integration Specialists for Wayne Township, Distance Learning Lead Teacher and the Varsity Boys Swimming Team assistant coach. She is also an IUPUI professor in the Educational Technology Masters Program. Libby has a strong commitment to education, physical fitness and health.

Lisa Blamey graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelors degree in l995 and received her Masters degree from the University of Indianapolis in 2002. She teaches English to sophomores and juniors at Fishers High School. Lisa is an active member of the Indiana Teachers of Writing where she has served on the Board of Directors since 2003. This will be her first year as an English teacher with the Indiana Online Academy. Lisa has been married to her husband Dave for 11 years and they have two children, Payton and Gabby.

Shelly Horvath graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a Bachelors degree in l984 and received her Masters degree in l989. She is certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, and is also a graduate of the Teacher Leadership Academy and the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy. Shelly teaches senior English at Franklin Central High School. In addition, she is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Indianapolis where she teaches Western World Literature 101, and she also teaches composition and literature at the University of Indianapolis for the School for Adult Learning. She has been an English teacher with the Indiana Online Academy since its beginning. Shelly has been married to her husband Drew for 25 years. They have three daughters; one is a senior in college, another is a junior in college, and their youngest is a third grader. They enjoy attending sporting events, traveling, and spending time with each family. |

Suzanne Amiss teaches Psychology and World History at Westfield High School. She also serves as the social studies department chair and as an Indiana State Teachers Association building representative. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Education from IUPUI. Suzanne has taught at Westfield High School since 1986 and earlier in her career coached basketball and track there. Suzanne enjoys participating in hiking and other outdoor activities with her husband and daughter. |

Tom Gallagher was born on the southwest side of Chicago in Bolingbrook, Illinois. Before finishing grade school, he moved to Carmel, Indiana, where he was fortunate enough to be a member of the 1993 State Championship Cross Country Team. Later that year, he finished his high school track career by placing 7th in the 300 meter hurdles at the State Meet and setting a new school record. Tom earned a degree in Science Education, with an emphasis on Math Education, from the University of Indianapolis. While attending college, he started his coaching career by being the head boys' and girls' cross country teams at Clay Junior High in Carmel. After filling a maternity leave teaching a semester of Physics at Carmel High School, he got his first real position teaching 8th grade math, science, and physical education. After a year of teaching in Carmel, Tom became the Algebra I teacher at Cathedral High School. Currently, he is teaching only Geometry there and is the IOA Algebra I teacher. Tom treats his classroom like his track team, EFFORT = RESULTS. You can only achieve by trying your best. |

Virginia Hudson is a full-time English teacher at Franklin Central High School. She has been teaching for more than 30 years, during which her subject area has been mainly American literature. It is one of her passions. She is married, also for more than 30 years, and has one son who lives on the East Coast. Most of her spare time involves reading and needlepoint. She also enjoys working in her yard. Virginia is the IOA English 11 instructor this semester and is really looking forward to working with her students in this on-line course. |
